Celebrations of World Haemophilia Day were this year held at Alton Towers. Organised by Bayer Healthcare, over 200 patients, families and clinicians attended what has become an annual event to take part in activities and hear from leading members of the community. Younger guests participated in the Bayer Calendar Competition, a national colouring competition for haemophilia patients aged under 12.
Dr Michael Makris, director of the Sheffield Comprehensive Care Haemophilia Centre and Dr Paul Giangrande, director of Oxford Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre, medical advisor to the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC) and also ex Vice President Medical for the World Federation of Haemophilia, spoke about adult prophylaxis and the evolution of haemophilia treatment across the globe.Liz Rotario, chair for the society outlined their key plans for 2009.
